Lockport, NY – For seven consecutive years, Lockport business owner Philip Kauppinen of Grand New Flag has selected a different Veteran-oriented not for profit organization to donate a percentage of his company’s annual net profits. For 2018, Philip’s not for profit of choice is Lockport based 501(c)(3) S.E.R.V. Niagara.

“The 5% for Vets Fund is my promise to give back 5% of net profits each year to a non-profit organization that helps Veterans of the United States Armed Forces,” says Kauppinen. “The fund is inspired by my father’s service in the Army. He served two combat tours in Vietnam (1966-1968) and was blessed to make it home. He will forever be my hero.”

Kauppinen’s 2018 recipient, S.E.R.V. Niagara, provides fully furnished permanent housing in Lockport for homeless and disabled Veterans and families in need, as well as other support services and outreach to Veterans throughout Niagara County.

S.E.R.V. Niagara Founder Jennifer D’Andrea expresses her deep gratitude for her organization being selected by Kauppinen and states “Philip’s commitment to helping S.E.R.V. Niagara in 2018 is greatly appreciated and will help us in our mission this year as we work on expanding our housing in North Tonawanda.”

Both military brats, Kauppinen and D’Andrea have witnessed first-hand some of the struggles of military and veteran families and are of the same belief. D’Andrea says “Despite the many challenges some families face, both Philip and I believe that everyone has inherent worth and should be treated with dignity. Those are our personal hallmarks and we feel it’s our duty to give back to those who have served and sacrificed.”
